Shonn Greene, (University of Iowa alum), has a timely and uplifting story that reveals how to handle embarrassment and defeat and still emerge triumphant! The National Football League running back has a universal message for all: No matter what your dream is, whether to write a book, start a business, help a cause… don’t ever give up!
Since
he was a child, playing in the Pop Warner League, Shonn’s lifelong dream was to
play in the NFL, but at one point in his college career it seemed impossible.
Shonn went from being a blue chip high school prospect to becoming academically
ineligible and being forced to drop out of college. He ended up working in a
factory setting up furniture for $8 an hour. Rather than allow himself to become
a statistic, he recovered his own fumble and one year later, Greene had led the
Big Ten with 1,729 rushing yards, was the only running back in the country to
average over 100 yards per game, and set University of Iowa school records for
rushing yards in a single season.
In 2009, the Doak Walker winner and New York Jets’ rookie, (who many had
written off mid-way through their 2009-2010 season), helped his team get within
one game of playing in the ultimate arena: the Super Bowl. Now Shonn and the
Greene family want to help others struggling to overcome adversity through the
Going Greene Foundation. Read on and learn how you can help deserving young
people overcome the challenges they face in life.
